Self Caring

We are living in a fast-paced society where there is just too much to do in too little time. Thus, it is so easy to become mentally drained and as Christians, we may forget to energize our spiritual life, as well as neglect our body’s needs. And in order for us to become mentally, spiritually and physically revitalized we need to ‘self-care,’ so that we can be our best selves ready to take on each day.

What is self-caring?

I consider self-caring as the act of looking after the physical, mental, and spiritual self. The beauty of self-caring is that, it is not a one-time thing and it includes a variety of activities, from a DIY activity, to a motivational video to doing bible study, which will leave you feeling relaxed and feeling like a better version of yourself.

Reasons we should practice self-care.

Why should we fit ‘self-care’ in our already busy schedule or break our cycle of doing nothing all day just to do something that is healthy for our body, mind and spirit. Well here are three reasons I came up with on why we should take care of ourselves:

·        It is our responsibility

Yes, it definitely is, if we don’t who will, one person can’t self-care for another, besides we know what’s best for our physical, mental, and spiritual health. Hence, it is our duty to take care of ourselves.

·        Self-caring is selfless

The thought of self-caring might seem selfish, but when we take care of ourselves we are taking care of those around us. Since we in fact are trying to be our best self, others around us will be encouraged to do the same, and we have so much more to offer when our mind, body and spirit is healthy.

·        The bible tells us to

Finally, the bible too encourages self-care. Below are seven bible verses which speak on self-care:

“  Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this             world, but let God transform you inwardly by a                 complete change of your mind."       ~Romans 12:2

“Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your          thoughts”    ~Proverbs 4:23

Physical exercise has some value, but spiritual exercise is valuable in every way, because it promises life both for the present and for the future.”    ~1 Timothy 4:8

“Leave all your worries with him, because he cares for you.”      ~1 Peter 5:7

“ So keep watch over yourselves and over all the flock which the Holy Spirit has placed in your care.”     ~Acts 20:28

“So if anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you yourselves are his temple.”       ~1 Corinthians 3:17

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; whatsoever things are if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”    ~Philippians 4:8

Self-caring is a wonderful, fun and important duty which should not be neglected. So how are you self-caring today?
